AIRPORT POLICE

At GFIA, the police office is more than what the name implies. The police office is also the home of the airport Lost and Found and the airport ID Badging and Fingerprinting services. This is also where you go to pay fines for parking violations.

The airport police office is located in the Grand Hall, behind the News & Gift shop.

The airport police unit comprises one chief, five sergeants, 14 officers, and one clerk. They are responsible for airport and airfield security and law enforcement. They also provide law enforcement support to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Airport law enforcement officers are on duty 24 hours a day, providing public safety services throughout the airport terminal, roads and parking areas, and the airfield.

Police officers at Gerald R. Ford International Airport are certified by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES).

HOURS OF OPERATION
While airport police are on site and available 24 hours a day, some of the services provided by the Police Office are offered only during specified hours.

For ID badging and fingerprinting services, hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 – 11:30 am and 12:30 – 3:30 pm. These services are provided by staff on a first-come – first-served basis.

For security, lost and found services, or to pay a fine during non-business hours, you may contact airport dispatch by dialing “0” from any red courtesy phone and they will send someone to assist you.

To contact airport police during operating hours, call 616-233-6015. After hours you may call 616-233-6000 or, if in the airport, use one of the courtesy phones to be connected to a police officer for assistance.

LOST AND FOUND
If you believe that you lost an item at GFIA, you may contact the airport police office at 616-233-6015. Items turned in to the airport police are generally held for 30 days. Please note: airlines hold all items found on aircraft; contact an airline representative at the ticket counter.

ID BADGING AND FINGERPRINTING
The airport is required by federal regulation to issue identification badges to airport employees and contractors whose job responsibilities require them to have access into secured areas of the airport. Appropriate paperwork should be completed and signed by authorized personnel prior to reporting to the airport police office. Prior to being issued identification badges, employees must pass an FBI fingerprint-based criminal history record check.
